February 23, 2016 Household Items That May Be Making You Sick

We all know the importance of cleaning and sanitizing certain household surfaces, such as kitchen counter tops and just about every surface in the bathroom. But there are a few more practices that you might consider adopting to keep your home healthier.

These are frequently handled items that can become bacteria hot spots in your home. They should be wiped regularly with antibacterial wipes, treated with a gel hand sanitizer, or simply washed, depending upon which is the most practical means of sanitizing them.

  1. Refrigerator and freezer door handles
  2. Stove knobs
  3. TV remotes
  4. Game controllers
  5. Computer keyboards and tablets
  6. Door knobs, especially in the bathroom and in heavily used rooms
  7. Children’s toys
  8. Stuffed animals
  9. Kitchen faucet handles
  10. Cell phones, especially those owned by teenagers in the household

Added tip: You should make it a practice to always wash your hands after loading the washing machine with dirty laundry, to keep from transferring the germs you may have picked up to other areas of the house.

It won’t take a lot of effort to add these items to your regular cleaning routine, and you and your family will be glad you did it!
