Quick DIY Tip:  Use a Nail as a Drill Bit.  It happens sometimes.  You have all your tools and materials laid out for your DIY project, and you are ready to go.  You start drilling that first hole, maybe it’s a pilot hole, and uh-oh… Your drill bit breaks.  And you don’t happen to have another one on hand that is the right size.

Before you drop everything to run to the hardware store for a new drill bit, first try our quick diy tip:  Use a nail as a drill bit!  Chances are, you have a nail somewhere in your garage or workshop that is the approximate same size as your broken drill bit.

Here is what you do: First, cut off the head or flat end of the nail (if there is one). Next, stick the nail in the chuck of your drill, sharp side pointing out.  Tighten the chuck, and you will be good to go for a hole or two.

This makeshift solution will hopefully allow you to finish the job at hand before going out to purchase a new drill bit.

You can do this!
