Repair a Burst Pipe in 10 Minutes or Less

If you live in a cold climate, you might experience frozen (and ruptured) plumbing pipes from time to time.  This can sometimes happen even if you take precautions to keep your pipes from freezing.

If this happens to you, you might want to try this quick and permanent fix, rather than having to call in a plumber.  You will save money, and time waiting for help to arrive.

Tools You Will Need:

-push-fit fittings and/or connector hose

-copper tubing cutter (or pex or cpvc cutter if you don’t have copper pipes)

-a tool of some kind to clean and de-bur the pipe after cutting it (such as emery cloth)

Watch this video to learn how to fix plumbing leaks and burst pipes with push-fit fittings.  Leah shows you, step-by-step, how to:

-Cut out the damaged section of pipe with a copper tubing cutter

-How to select which size of repair connector you need to use

-How to attach and adjust the repair connectors

-How to test to make sure your connection is secure

Push-fits are sold under several brand names, including “Sharkbite” and “Blue Hawk”.  You can get them at any home improvement or hardware store.
