Friday Find:  J-B Weld

As its name suggests, J-B Weld is an epoxy cement that will “weld” together anything made of metal, as well as some glasses and plastics.  It has been around for a while, but we find it so useful that we felt it was more than worth mentioning in our “Friday Find”.  Since most people don’t have welding equipment in their home workshops and garages, this inexpensive product is invaluable to the DIY-er…and, it really works!

You can use J-B Weld for so many applications, but some of our favorites include:  fixing auto parts, fixing metal toys and bicycles, silver jewelry, and many other household items, such as lamps, radiators, and fireplace screens, just to name a few.

For J-B Weld to be effective, we recommend following the instructions on the package carefully.

Here are a few other tips:

-It works best on surfaces that are slightly rough, so if your surfaces are very smooth, sand them a bit  (if appropriate)

-If you can, clamp the 2 pieces together.

-Allow to set and cure for the full 24 hours.  (The package says 16-24 hours for curing, but we have found it best to give it the full time to work)
