Why Keeping Your Freezer Full Is a Good Idea

Believe it or not, keeping your freezer full is a great idea. Why? A full freezer means that there is less space for warm air to take up when you open the freezer door.

This means you use less energy to run your freezer, AND your food will stay frozen longer in the event of a power outage.

If your freezer isn’t already stuffed with food, and you need to fill it out a bit, first move all food items towards the center and front of the freezer, so that you can easily access them. Next, use ziplock bags filled with water, empty gallon-sized milk jugs filled with water, and/or a couple of bags of ice to fill in the spaces around the perimeter.

Another trick is to collect all the ice packs in the house, such as those used for lunch containers, coolers, and first aid, and store them in the freezer when not in use.
