How to Use a Plate Joiner to Attach Pieces of Wood.  Watch this video to learn how to use a plate joiner, also known as a “biscuit cutter” to attach 2 pieces of wood together, using a wood biscuit and wood glue.

First, you use the plate joiner to cut slots in each of two pieces of wood, and then the biscuit is glued into both pieces to hold them together. You can make straight cuts with the plate joiner, or you can adjust the fence to attach mitered pieces at an angle.

This is a very handy tool, and is a lot easier to use than you might think! The nice thing about it is that it allows you to join wood without any hardware, drilling or nailing required.  Because the slots are somewhat larger than the biscuits, you can adjust the pieces before the glue sets, so it is fairly easy to achieve a nearly perfect joint with a plate joiner.

This is a great tool to have (and also a great gift!) for anyone with an interest in woodworking.  They range in price from around $60 for an inexpensive plate joiner, to several hundred for the higher-end models.
