Keep Lock De-Icer on Your Keychain. If you have a car that is prone to the door locks freezing, you probably realize the futility of keeping a can of de-icer in your glove compartment. How would you get to it? The frustration about car door locks freezing is that it happens unexpectedly and at the most inconvenient times, like just before leaving home for work. And why not store it in your home? Because, well, your locks could freeze while you are at work, or out shopping, and so that would not be helpful either.
Since you never know when your car locks might freeze up on you, you might want to consider the following cold winter strategy: Keep your lock de-icer on your keychain! I have had great success with the inexpensive aerosol-dispensed de-icer that you can find at most auto supply stores. It is a product that I trust to thaw out my car door locks.
However, I have not been able to find a mini version of this de-icer on a keychain. You would think that some manufacturer would have figured out the usefulness of this, and placed their product on a key chain for everyone’s practical convenience.
Well, since I couldn’t find one, I decided to create my own key chain lock de-icer. This is how I did it:
I drilled a hole from the top to the side of the cap. This placement reduces any chance of the key ring accidentally activating the de-icer dispenser.
Next, I attached the de-icer dispenser to my key chain. Now, I can say with confidence, Jack Frost bring it on!
