Love your videos! It’s so helpful to see how it is done. H
Thanks, Helene! We appreciate your comment!
I can’t find where to click the like on this demonstration. It was stellar! I need to buy the bit that she showed. Thanks!
Nice video…really like how you provide all the necessary details in your demonstrations…I am learning a lot! So happy to have discovered you through You Tube, when I was searching how to make a straight cut with my circular saw. And am now following you on Twitter too. 🙂
A question about these toggles…can I use a toggle to hang a rather heavy chandelier? I currently have a pendant light fixture, which is light in weight and which I installed myself…I have a little know how with electrical connections. But, because my new fixture will be rather heavy, once I add all the crystal globes that it came with, I don’t want it to rip out of my ceiling, due to the weight. Any advice would be most appreciated. Thanks!
Hi Magdalena, you wouldn’t use a toggle bolt to hang a chandelier. What you need to do is to put in a fan/fixture support that spans and attaches to the joists. This can accommodate a heavy weight such as a chandelier (up to approximately 90 lbs). The downside, of course, is that you need to open up the ceiling to attach the fixture support to the joists, but there just isn’t another way around it. Hope this helps! -Leah
I was afraid of something major like that…Thanks for the feedback!
Leah, I want to be you when I grow up! (I’m over 50, so I’d better get with it!) Thanks so much for your videos, which are enormously helpful. One question about the toggle bolts: What’s happening on the back side of the wall when you drill the screw in? Do the “wings” of the toggle bolt tighten up to the wall? Thanks!
Hi Marla, this is what happens with the toggle bolts. The wings open up and then cinch up against the back of the wall as you tighten the screw. Thanks for the compliment!! 🙂
Hi Leah: Loved your video about toggle bolts. I need to hang several shelves in my laundry room. My husband always handled these projects wonderfully but he recently passed away. Could a 71 year old arthritic lady do such a project? The walls are drywall. I want to be able to put detergent, bleach, toilet tissue, paper towels, napkins, etc on these shelves. I can’t afford to hire someone to do it., Help!
Hi Linda, Sorry it took me a little longer to respond to your question than I generally take. Please forgive the delayed response. You asked if a 71 old arthritic lady do such a project? Absolutely! I recently gave my 71 year old Mother-In-Law a battery operated drill for her birthday. She loves it, and most importantly, she uses it. So yes, “you can do this!” Obviously, you’ll need a battery operated drill to create the holes for the toggle bolts. Metal toggle bolts can shoulder a lot of weight, around 25lbs to 50lbs, depending on the size, and toggle bolts are an ideal solution for drywall. I can make a video for you showing you how to do this step by step if you would like, however, I must say that we’re a little backed up with video requests, so it would be about a month out. Regards, Leah
