October 21, 2015 Late Fall Fertilizing for Your Lawn
Fertilize your lawn in the late fall? Yes! Fertilizing now helps to strengthen the roots of the grass, giving you better growth next spring.
Most people know to fertilize their lawn in September, when the grass is recovering from the hot summer. But it is very helpful to give one last dose in late October – early November, or before the first true frost.
All fertilizers, including lawn fertilizers, are usually formulated as x-x-x, representing the amounts of nitrogen-phosphorous-potassium contained in them. For this last fertilization of the season, try using a fertilizer with a higher amount of phosphorous, and less nitrogen, which will stimulate root growth. One possibility to try would be a 13-25-12 formula.
Fertilize now, and enjoy a healthier lawn next spring!
