Clean Your Dryer Vent Once a Year

If your dryer isn’t drying your clothes as quickly and efficiently as it used to, it may not be a problem with the dryer itself. The culprit could be a dirty or clogged dryer vent.

Cleaning the dryer vent is one of those yearly tasks that sometimes gets overlooked, but you really should add it to your spring cleaning list or “prepare for winter” to-do list.  In addition to cleaning out your lint trap faithfully after every load of clothes, your dryer vent  needs to be cleaned out regularly to prevent it from overheating. This will also eliminate the potential risk of lint build-up igniting and causing a fire.

You could get this chore done by a professional.  A professional cleaning service will typically charge you about $100 to clean your dryer vent.  You could also save quite a bit by doing it yourself, however.  If you are a DIY-er who doesn’t mind getting your hands dirty once in a while, you can easily do this task yourself.  Just get yourself a dryer vent cleaning kit.  These can be purchased at most home improvement stores for as little as $25.
