DIY Car Window Deicer: Rubbing Alcohol

Who doesn’t dread having to scrape down their car windshield and windows on a freezing morning, before heading off to school or work?

There are plenty of commercial window deicers that work well to help you to scrape off all that ice, but we think that rubbing (isopropyl) alchohol is great too, and much cheaper.

DIY Car Window Deicer Recipe

2 parts rubbing alcohol

1 part water

2 or 3 drops of regular dish liquid soap

Mix the ingredients up in a spray bottle, and keep it in on hand. Spray it onto iced-over car windows, and it will quickly loosen up the ice, so that you can scrape it off and go.

Another great use for rubbing alcohol is as a deicing agent is for your windshield wipers. When you know that freezing weather is on the way or a big storm is coming, add 1 part alcohol to 1 part windshield wiper fluid in the wiper fluid container of your car. This will keep your wipers from freezing up when the mercury drops, and will also help to deice things, should you encounter sudden freezing temperatures while you are driving.

Sometimes the simplest household ingredients have the most helpful uses!
