Shop the Auto Parts Store With Confidence.  Never again worry or feel trepidation about venturing out to the auto parts store to get the parts you need for your DIY car repair.  Nowadays, the staff at most chain auto parts stores are helpful and friendly, and there will be both men and women working there to assist you.  Think of the auto parts store as a department store for cars.  You can not only get auto parts, motor oil, and tools there, but you can also pick up items such as seat covers, safety flares and car air fresheners.  It’s basically an automobile emporium!

If you are going to the auto parts store to pick up actual parts for your car, for example, a sensor or spark plug wires, plan to shop armed with the following information:  car make, model, year, and engine size.  You can usually find the engine size information on what is called an “emissions decal” located on the underside of the car’s hood, or on the car radiator, or on the belt-routing diagram. Give the information about your car to the clerk, and then they can pull the exact part that you need for your car.

For some more peripheral items such as an air filter or new wiper blades, there are catalogs within the store to help you choose just the right part for the make and model of your car.  Watch this video in which Leah takes you on a field trip to the auto parts store, and shows you how these catalogs are laid out, and how to use them to pick up your own part.

You Can Definitely Do This!
