Well, the reason is this: Most bricks today are fired in a kiln, which gives them strength and hardness, but also makes it possible for them to shatter if you drill directly into them. If this were to happen, you would have a mess on your hands. It would be a big chore to replace the shattered brick in your wall. So, for the best outcome, we always recommend drilling into the mortar, and most people get great results from this!
