DIY Tip: How to Apply Plumber’s Tape Correctly. Plumber’s tape helps to ensure a tight seal in plumbing pipes. It can be used on both copper and on CPVC pipes. It is important to apply it correctly, however, so that you don’t unroll the tape when you are making the connection.
Here are the steps:
1. Make sure to wipe off the threads of the male end of the pipe before applying the tape.
2. Hold the pipe in your left hand (or keep the pipe to your left if it is mounted).
3. Wrap the tape in a clockwise direction (or with the direction of the threads).
4. At least 3 wraps around will ensure a good seal.
And that’s it!
