July 16, 2015  Black Diamonds on Tape Measure, What are They?

Rose C. recently wrote in to us here at See Jane Drill with this question:  

“I just noticed that my tape measure has black diamond markings that start at 19 and 3/16th inches.  What do they mean?”

Very good question! Here is the answer:  

The little black diamonds (which sometimes are just triangles) are used for truss layouts with 8-foot sheets of plywood or other stock.   They can help to speed up the measuring process.
