How to Repair a Hole in Plaster With Drywall

Sometimes a repair may seem too difficult to do on your own as a DIY-er.  Such might appear to be the case with a hole in a plaster wall. The truth is, you don’t necessarily have to repair it with plaster!

Watch this video to learn a simple, easy method for repairing holes in plaster walls with drywall.  The techniques used to do this are called “sister-ing” and “shimming”.

This is a great and much easier alternative to re-plastering a hole in a plaster wall.  You can get everything you need from your local home improvement store or online. This will help you to avoid having to make a special trip to the building supply store to get plastering supplies.

To do this job, you will need to have:

  • A piece of drywall (sheetrock), cut to size
  • A drywall saw (different than a keyhole saw)
  • A keyhole saw
  • 2 scrap pieces of 2×4 wood
  • some scrap cardboard
  • a power drill with a counter-sinking bit
  • screws

Take your time, follow Leah’s easy step-by-step instructions, and your plaster walls will soon be looking as good as new again.
